The latest Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) announcement by central government, pledging $270 million for communications infrastructure nationwide has been welcomed by Manawatū-Whanganui regional leaders.
Accelerate25, the programme behind the Manawatū-Whanganui Economic Action Plan, and Horizons Regional Council have won the Collaboration Award at the Inaugural Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Awards for their innovative approach to implementing a complex long term programme.
A series of workshops will be touring the Manawatu-Whanganui region this month, highlighting opportunities with water on-farm and benefits of hill country stock water reticulation.
The seminars, to be presented by AgFirst, with the support of Accelerate25, Beef + Lamb New Zealand and the Ministry for Primary Industries, are a result of a recent study looking at the economic evaluation of stock water reticulation on hill country. The study involved 11 case study farmers from across New Zealand, focused on farmers who had installed systems in the last decade and that had been running for at least 18 months. Analysis revealed farmers on average experienced an Internal Rate of Return of 53 per cent, which is a significant return on investment. Tourism Minister Paula Bennett today announced $1.27 million in government funding for six new tourism infrastructure projects across the Manawatū-Whanganui region.
The benefits of hill country stock water reticulation are to be presented this month during the New Zealand Agrifood Investment Week, at the Central Districts Field Days.
Since its launch in August last year, significant progress is being made in implementing many of the identified opportunities in the Manawatū–Whanganui Economic Action Plan under the banner of Accelerate25.
Te Pae Tawhiti, a strategy for Māori economic development across the Manawatū-Whanganui Region, will be officially launched by Minister Te Ururoa Flavell at Te Pae Tata in Ohakune on Thursday 3 November.
